Letter from the President
March 18, 2019
We are now well into our 20th year – amazing! Despite a poor 4Q/18 stock market, we set a record for total revenue in 2018, principally because of a special major gift from a long-time donor that helped the Scholarship Endowment grow from $885,143 in 2017 to $975,508 as of 12/31/18. Remember please, our long term goal is a 1.4 million dollar endowment that will endow thirty-five two thousand dollar scholarships annually.
Check out the pie back-side pie chart. It tells our 20-year scholarship story better than I can do in words. For the first time, all 12 of the segments will be able to offer at least one scholarship this spring.
In June, we expect to fund thirty-two $1,900 scholarships ($60,800), along with the normal $25,000 in educational project grants, and $10,000 in student Career Development awards. And, we will give two Maddie Potts, $1,000 Spirit of Community Leadership awards for the second time. The Maddie Potts endowment was new last spring, and we finished 2018 with an endowment value of almost $15,000. So we have a ways to go to reach the $40,000 level that will endow the two awards in perpetuity.
Also on the backside is an abbreviated version of a Dialog with Assistant Superintendent Jane Daly. The full Dialog along with a second interview with Barry Ricci can be found on our website (www.Community2000.org). Both are interesting and worth taking a few moments to read.
Please keep your very generous contributions coming for our scholarship, grant and student award efforts, and remember, we will be pleased to split your contribution in any manner that you indicate.
We are especially grateful to those of you who make multiple contributions throughout the year. As always, we love to hear from you with questions or comments (firstname.lastname@example.org) or 401-322-1182.
