"Insect" is a project to work cooperatively with the second grade teachers using the science kit and integrating it into each of the specialist areas.  This continuity will enable the students to make connections with nature and the arts.

“Lighthouses in Rhode Island” – Funds would be used to purchase Flip video cameras with accessories to be used in the classroom by students.  Students will research lighthouses in Rhode Island and build a model.  They will then film their models from different perspectives to answer questions.

“People of Ancient Times” - The 6th grade teachers have created a project that incorporates social studies content standards with ELA writing standards and information literacy skills.  Students will write a research paper in MLA format incorporating research, Cornell Note Taking, and writing skills.

“Document Cameras” - Teachers need classroom equipment that provides live image capture of documents, pictures, textbooks, and three-dimensional objects.  10 IPEBO document cameras would be used in science classrooms in grades 6 - 8 for larger than life image projection.

“Manikins/first Aid Training” - The funds will be used to purchase 2 junior manikins.  This will provide students with Rescue Breathing, Choking, and CPR Training as part of their American Red Cross Babysitter Certification.

“Sensory Garden” - Funds will be used to complete 120 foot long pathway that is not wheelchair accessible.

“Good vs. Evil” - This project is twofold.  First, using graphic novels a different type of literature.  Second, this project is to teach the art of persuasive writing.  All graphic novels selected for the project focus on the concept of good vs. evil.

“Design a Bookmark” - The "Create a Bookmark" contest is a collaborative project that is designed to draw attention to reading as well as to showcase students' artistic talents.  Funds will be used for the printing of the 8 winning bookmark designs.

“Thanksgiving” - Cross Generational Dinner that the Students will plan, prepare, and serve to the senior citizens in the community.

“Cosmetology Community Project” – Purpose of the grant is to purchase supplies that are needed to provide half-price services to the senior citizens who reside in the area.

“Ronald McDonald House” – Purchase food supplies to provide dinner at Ronald McDonald House once per month.  Goal is to gain experience in catering and transporting food.

“Healthy Decision Making” – Purchase 5 videos to support healthy decision making in bullying, teen dating, dysfunctional families, etc.

“The Lightning Thief” – The purpose is to purchase 100 copies of the contemporary novel to be used in the mythology unit.

“Enjoying Poetry” – Funds would be used to purchase variety of poetry books to be used in a Poetry Unit.

“Graduation Portfolio”- Funds would be used to purchase digital cameras and related equipment to be used for portfolio requirements and AP Art program.

“The Blind Side” - Funds would be used to purchase a book about Michael Ohr which will be used in an integrated unit about Tolerance and Coming of Age.

“Natural Helpers” – Funds will be used to purchase a laptop and digital camera.  Natural Helpers will use the equipment to take photographs and develop a power point presentation for the incoming 5th grade class each spring called "Chariho Middle School ROCKS".  This presentation is intended to alleviate fears and anxieties of entering the middle school.

“Serendipity” - The purpose of Serendipity is to encourage adults and students to form a reading partnership and for participants to experience reading as an enjoyable, recreational activity.  Funds will be used to purchase multiple copies of a book chosen for the Book Club.
