Since
2005 Community 2000 and the Westerly College Club have been in a
partnership to raise funds for Westerly College Club scholarships.
The
Westerly College Club is comprised of women who are graduates of any
accredited four-year college or university. The Club has 120 members from
the Connecticut and Rhode Island shoreline. The Club has met regularly
since its founding in 1910 and plans are currently underway for a
centennial celebration in 2010.
The
Club's membership encompasses a diverse group of women of all ages and
interests. They enjoy gathering regularly for programs, presentations, and
outings of general interest. Members are encouraged to participate in the
inception of new programs, to serve on committees and to run for Club
offices.
In addition to club
programming, The Westerly College Club awards yearly scholarships to
eligible upperclassmen in college. Students become eligible by completing
one semester at a four-year degree granting institution. Students must be a
resident of Charlestown, Hopkinton, Richmond, Westerly RI or North
Stonington or Stonington, CT. The scholarship money comes from an endowment
fund given in memory of Lois Hamilton Fontaine. Because of its scholarship
mission, The Club is designated as a charitable 501(c)(3) organization. All
contributions and dues are exempt from federal taxes.
